Be Thankful for What You Have

Start manifesting what you really want and say goodbye to that scarcity mindset! Give yourself the gift of enough.
thankful for what you have

Oh, Oprah…always giving us amazing words of wisdom that we are thankful for!  With this week being Thanksgiving, I’m going to shower you with posts of being thankful today, Wednesday, and Friday, so look out!

It’s like that saying that some see the glass half full and some see it as half empty.

Are you more of a pessimist or an optimist?  Or does it depend?

There’s always a gray area…like if you are having a bad day, it’s easier to see things as half empty vs. half full.

Scarcity Mindset:

A scarcity mindset is when you believe you do not have and will never have enough.  It’s easy to fall into this trap, especially being surrounded by social media where we are showered with messages of what we don’t have all the time.  Perfect bodies, smiling faces, big houses, shiny cars…you get the drift. These messages make their way into our brains that cause stress and anxiety we didn’t need in the first place.

Commercial marketing breathes this stuff.  They want you to believe you need what they have to offer.  The expensive program, the weight-loss supplements, another purse because this one is better!  They are so good at it, that after you see 3 ads for the same product, science takes over and you actually start believing it.  Yes, it even gets to the best of us…there’s been many a time I’ve found myself in a digital shopping cart and virtually have to slap myself to X away from the screen.

If you are thinking right now the times a scarcity mindset has entered your life, that’s ok.  I commend you for recognizing your pessimism or feeling like there is not enough. This brings us to the next point…

Intention:

When we apply intention to our thinking, we can shift gears into appreciating what we already have.  When we think intentionally we think about the purpose of each thought.

I want you to think:

  • “Was this thought positive?”
  • “How is this thought serving me?”
  • “Can I reframe this another way in my favor or more positive?”

When we think about our intention of our thought, our intention of what we buy, and our intention of how we act, it changes everything.

If you create a win-win in your mindset where you can reframe a negative into a positive, it will keep that glass half full, so you can stay motivated and positive no matter what the outcome.  An example might be if you really like a shirt and the store is out of your size.  Instead of being angry or upset that they don’t have your size, you can reframe that to something like, “It wasn’t meant to be,” or “maybe there’s a better shirt that is in my size.”

Think of a negative thought right now.  How can you reframe it?

The more you practice, the more it will carry over into your everyday thinking.  If you are mostly negative, this will take time and patience.  Not every day can be glitter and unicorns, some days will be harder than others. The point here is to start somewhere so you can begin to intentionally shift that mindset from scarcity to abundance…let’s dive into abundance next…

There’s another post about starting where you are and using what you have that you can find here.

Abundance:

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of “abundance?”

Is it money? Is it material things?  Something else?

When I think of abundance, I think of creativity.  Creativity is my strength, something I find beauty in and feel there is an abundance of in the world.  I am thankful for the creativity of not just artists, but also regular people who find creative ways to make things work.  Upcycling furniture, parents without much money creating amazing Halloween costumes for their kids using what they have…it truly lights my soul to be surrounded by creativity.  That is my abundance.

What is yours?

Whatever that is, how do you surround yourself with it?

This is key…if you want to be positive, you want to surround yourself with an abundance of something that is meaningful to you.  Positive people if you want good friends.  Maybe you work in finance if you want an abundance of money so it’s around you all the time.  If you want an abundance of time, maybe you clear out your calendar.

You are the creator of your own abundance, it all depends on the choices you make.

Be intentional with how you spend your time, who you spend it with and what you do with it and I’m pretty positive you’ll get more of what you want.  That’s what Oprah is telling is here. Concentrate on what you have and what you want, then it will come.  If you focus on the negative, you’ll never have enough.

…and what is enough anyway?  How do you know you have enough of whatever it is?  Food for thought here is something people keep “collecting” things, money, etc., and never seem to have enough.  They move onto the next shiny thing and the next collection.  What really matters to you in your abundance?

I’d take an abundance of meaningful friendships over a designer purse collection any day to be thankful for!

Making it Happen:

They say “what goes around, comes around,” so let’s let positivity and being thankful continue to go around so it comes back to all of us.  Some call this karma.  Some call this manifesting.  Whatever you call it, know that living intentionally, using what you have, and being thankful for that can create an abundance of something you never thought possible.

It’s how you think, the daily thoughts you have, and finding the positives that manifest true happiness.

So here’s me being like Oprah here…

Just kidding, no tacos!  But I am going to say:

I am thankful for you and what you bring to the world.  Continue being awesome and believing there is more for you out there!
