Ok, ok, I know what you are thinking…this chick just told us she was off social media for 2yrs, so it’s easy for her to close up apps on the weekend.
I do agree! It is easier for me to turn off from social because I haven’t been back on it that long and guess what, since I’ve returned my screen time has only gone up 17 minutes a day…clearly I’m not “back on” as much and totally by choice.
eMarketer.com tells us that the average social media user will use platforms in 2020 for approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes a day. If you do the math, that’s like a whole month out of the year! Crazy!
So this weekend I am posing a challenge to temporarily delete those apps and focus our energy on other things…hobbies, nature, actually tasting your food, the people in your lives.
Take note of how many times you reach for the phone to check social…get curious about its effect on you and your response to it.
This challenge will not be easy, but it will be worth it. Sunday night, write down what happened. Did you experience phantom notifications like I did when I went off 2 years ago? How did you feel?
Let’s get mindful in our moments and not mindless through scrolling through our feeds.
Get curious about social media’s effect on you and you and reflect if you may want to change the amount of time you devote to it after.
